I + Bark!

I’ll be playing a solo set at the Star and Shadow in Newcastle upon Tyne on the 29th February just before Bark! The gig is being organised by A Better Noise.

BARK! was formed in 1991 by Rex Casswell and Phillip Marks amid the then-thriving improv scene in Manchester. After various line-ups, Paul Obermayer joined to form the current trio at the end of 1998.

BARK!’s music is built up predominantly from quickly-decaying “atoms” in all instruments, and ranges from detailed slow-moving textures, through complex interlocking grooves, to the most frenzied kinetic noise. Solos are rare, and most of the (collective) gestures and textures occur at and explore the intersections between acoustic and electronic sound.

I’ll probably be doing an improvised set combining feedback, home made electronics and some prerecorded material. But that might change…
